The starting point

The starting point & the tasks

Strong competition: VI above 1.0 in place, but competitors considerably stronger.
Crawling chaos: thousands of filter parameters caused indexing problems and Search Console errors.
SEO deficits: barely any content and missing basics (e.g. meta tags, internal links).

When we took over the project, the women’s jewelry online shop already came with a solid foundation: a visibility index of over 1.0 showed that Google fundamentally rated the domain as relevant. But despite this starting position, the shop was far from realizing its true potential – the competition in the fiercely contested jewelry segment was considerably more visible and captured the bulk of the organic traffic.

The main problem lay deep in the technical structure: thousands of filter parameters – for colors, materials or sizes, for example – produced an unmanageable number of dynamic URLs. Because these filters were not cleanly controlled for search engines, Googlebot fell into a “crawl trap” and wasted its crawl budget on meaningless parameter pages instead of the important categories and products.

The logical consequence was massive indexing problems: relevant pages were ignored or dropped out of the index. Google Search Console confirmed the chaos – the dashboard was littered with a very high number of error messages.

In addition, the website was not at the expected level in terms of content either: there was hardly any optimized content, and a large share of the meta tags was missing, duplicated or not optimized for the focus keywords. The shop was essentially “blind” to search engines.

Our approach

The strategy & implementation

The strategy started with clearing the technical barriers. To fix the crawling chaos, the filter parameters were cleanly controlled via canonical tags and targeted URL parameter handling. This directed the crawl budget efficiently to the category pages and drastically reduced indexing errors. In addition, clean tracking and SEO reporting were set up.

In parallel came the content optimization. Based on a keyword analysis, a comprehensive keyword set was defined – from short-tail terms to specific mid- and long-tail keywords for women’s jewelry. All relevant pages received optimized meta tags, internal linking was strategically reworked and load times were improved. A particular focus was on the user experience (UX) of the category pages.

In addition, a jewelry wiki and blog were set up to place high-quality content for informational search queries and reduce thin-content problems. The strategy was flanked by the continuous building of topically relevant backlinks to strengthen the domain’s authority against the competitors.
