SEO trends, AI, Google AI Overviews & Co. – what an SEO agency should prepare its clients for
ChatGPT & Co. can simplify SEO processes. Mass-producing content with AI, however, is not a good idea. According to one study, almost two percent of 79,000 websites examined were hit with a manual action – affecting mainly information-oriented pages, some with an AI share of over 90 percent.
The most recent core and spam updates from Google target practices that artificially manipulate search results – whether created by humans or AI. Instead of quantity, companies should focus on quality, relevance and real added value.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: the impact on organic search
With AI Overviews, Google integrates AI answers directly into the search results pages. When they are shown prominently, they push the organic results down – like featured snippets and local boxes – and noticeably lower their click-through rate (CTR).
Dialogue-based systems go one step further: ChatGPT answers questions in natural language and often mentions sources only in passing – users click through to individual websites less often. The Google AI Mode becomes especially relevant: a dedicated, fully AI-powered search mode that breaks a question into many sub-queries, searches the web in parallel and forms a coherent answer from the results. For companies this means: anyone who wants to be cited as a reliable source in these AI answers needs clearly structured, well-founded content – and that is exactly where our GEO work comes in.
